Our Technology

Why our laser vision technology is so important for you

The Excimer Laser is one of the greatest inventions in ophthalmology. The Excimer Laser is the device that physically corrects your prescription during surgery. Because laser vision correction is based on the microscopic removal of corneal tissue at the molecular level it is impossible to achieve this type of accuracy manually. No other device has provided patients the opportunity to reduce or eliminate their dependency on glasses and contacts as precise as excimer lasers. Although many people perceive laser technology to be the same, there are vast differences between one laser versus another. One question that should be raised prior to your surgery is whether the laser being used is the newest in laser vision correction technology. By having your eyes treated with the newest in laser vision technology it increases your chances for a successful outcome. We currently use Wavelight Allegretto Eye-Q excimer laser as our default laser. The older version of this laser which is Allegretto wave has the best FDA results ever achieved. You will be astonished with our laser which treats 2 Diopters of myopia under 3 seconds..

NEW INTRALASE FS-30

EyeSTAR Lasik Institute is proud to announce its use of the new Intralase FS-30 flapmaker. IntraLASIK is the latest technological breakthrough in LASIK. We can now perform an all laser, LASIK procedure. Laser Vision Correction is often associated solely with the Excimer laser, but there are actually two very important steps in correcting your vision:

1. Creating a very thin flap of tissue that is folded back during treatment.

2. Reshaping the exposed surface with the Excimer laser and replacing the flap.

ALLEGRETTO WAVE™ Eye-Q

Speed · Precision · Better Vision

Featuring all advantages of the well-known ALLEGRETTO WAVE, the ALLEGRETTO WAVE Eye-Q is a further step towards optimizing the process of laser vision correction. With customized ablation in mind, all ophthalmic WaveLight products have been designed as a fully-integrated concept in order to provide physician and patient the highest level of safety and reliability in refractive surgery.
The ALLEGRETTO WAVE Eye-Q is the first device ever to provide the physician with the possibility of choosing the optimal treatment for the patient from all currently known possibilities of refractive surgery.

Q-Value Adjustment

Adjustment of the corneal asphericity (also known as the “Q-Value”) can have influence in affecting the visual acuity in mesopic and scotopic conditions. Q-Value Adjustment allows the physician to customize the asphericity of the patient´s cornea. Additional feature of this software is the ability to fine tune optical zones, transition zones and correction values.
In addition to wavefront optimized, A-CAT (wavefront guided) and T-CAT (topography guided) treatments, Q-Value Adjustment now offers a 4th dimension to the treatment of vision disorders. This provides true customization and offers a treatment ideally adjusted to the individual needs of the patient.

Cross Lines

A cross line projector is integrated into the ALLEGRETTO WAVE Eye-Q. This device will help the physician to accurately align the patient´s eye for all types of treatments, therefore enabling more precise correction of astigmatism and higher order aberrations.

Speed

Efficient treatment with fast pulse repetition minimizes the effects of dehydration of the cornea as well as external influences during surgery. In order to further optimize the refractive procedure itself, the repetition rate has been increased to 400 Hz in the ALLEGRETTO WAVE Eye-Q. This makes the ALLEGRETTO WAVE Eye-Q the fastest excimer laser currently available on the market. It allows the physician to perform a 6-diopter myopia correction on a fully corrected optical zone of 6.5 mm less than 15 seconds.

Wavefront Optimized Ablation Profiles

The ALLEGRETTO WAVE excimer lasers were the first lasers to use wavefront optimized ablation profiles, thus integrating an important wavefront guided treatment feature in standard laser vision correction. Laser surgery executed without a wavefront optimized ablation profile may result in altering the corneal asphericity in the peripheral correction area. These so-called induced spherical aberrations in the wavefront image may result in the patient experiencing problems with night vision or under mesopic conditions.
Utilizing a wavefront optimized ablation profile is designed to prevent such spherical aberrations of the patient´s cornea, thereby minimizing the risk of refractive surgery-related vision problems.

Small Beam Diameter

Due to the small laser spot with a diameter of 0.95mm (0.68mm FWHM, Full Width Half Maximum), the ALLEGRETTO WAVE laser systems work with a very high resolution and are able to create finest curvatures on the cornea - as required for customized laser vision correction.

True Optical Zones

The small spot creates the desired contour of the correction profile with utmost precision, thereby minimizing the total overall ablation depth. Combining a wavefront optimized beam profile with small laser spots allows for the creation of a large effective optical zone with a very small transition area.

Eyetracker

Eyetracker technology

The ALLEGRETTO WAVE Eyetracker

Not all eyetrackers are created equally. Ensure that the eyetracker has a sampling rate faster than 400 Hertz. The reason why this is so important is because your eye can twitch at a rate of 60 Hz. If your eye twitches faster or at the same speed as the eyetracker then the eyetracker may not be able to get the appropriate readings of the movement of the eye. In turn, the laser may not be able to place the right pulse of the laser in the appropriate section of the cornea because of the lack of information. What is also extremely important is the ability of the laser to react to the information being sent to it from the eyetracker. The response time of the laser must be very fast to ensure that each laser pulse is placed exactly on the appropriate part of the cornea. Even if the laser can sample the movement of the eye 1000 times but the laser reacts slowly to this information, the result is that the laser may be placing pulses on areas of the cornea based on old information. The best example of the relationship between the eyetracker and the laser is to try and imagine throwing a ball at a moving object that is going 400 miles an hour. Although you can see the moving object, your reflexes are too slow to adjust to the constant changes of the moving object. As a result, every time you throw the ball you are missing the moving object.

Eyetracker technology
The ALLEGRETTO WAVE Eyetracker

Slow or older lasers work on the same principle. Although the eyetracker can see the eye moving, it is too slow to react and may miss the targeted area of the cornea.

ALLEGRO Topolyzer

Speed Precision Better Vision

The basis for successful treatment of visual disorders is an accurate diagnosis. Working with the ALLEGRO Topolyzer means utilizing an ideal device to support the decision-making process for customized laser vision correction. By determining the patient’s exact visual correction needs, it greatly enhances the range of possible treatments, from WaveLight's “wavefront optimized” procedure to the highly sophisticated topography guided treatment.
The ALLEGRO Topolyzer with its corresponding T-CAT software has been specifically designed to measure and generate high resolution treatment data for eyes with severe irregularities.
It was developed for the most difficult cases, in which standard wavefront measurement and treatment would prove clinically ineffective.
With an extraordinarily high resolution of the cornea resulting from 22,000 measuring points and a large placido disc, the ALLEGRO Topolyzer is an accurate tool for the preparation of refractive surgery. In addition to producing a refractive map to display the influence of aberrations, the ALLEGRO Topolyzer is fitted with an interactive elevation map, allowing the individual selection of reference body, radius and asphericity.

ALLEGRO T-CAT Treatment

ALLEGRO Topolyzer and T-CAT have been optimized to complete the range of customized laser vision correction and to interact in perfect synchronization with the ALLEGRETTO WAVE excimer laser systems. All necessary treatment and patient parameters are transferred from the ALLEGRO Topolyzer to the ALLEGRETTO WAVE laser systems via diskette, mini CD or memory stick. The ALLEGRO T-CAT software inside the laser´s notebook then calculates the appropriate correction pattern. The physician may, however, decide to change individual parameters at any stage of the process.
The integrated real keratometer and automatic measuring release allow for precise centration of the image. Digital image transmission and sub-pixel approximation combined with a comfortable working distance and a measuring time amounting to only a fraction of a second allow for the highest possible reproduceability and accuracy of the data recorded. All data obtained here will be used by the ALLEGRO T-CAT software to define the respective treatment parameters.

The ALLEGRO Topolyzer may also be used as a stand-alone diagnostic instrument for regular topography measurements which are always required in refractive surgery. Integrated in the device is a keratoconus detection software and optional pupillometry software is also available. The manifold screen representation possibilities of the ALLEGRO Topolyzer include:
- Overview display
- Large color map
- 3D cornea
- Fourier Analysis
- Zernike Analysis
- Indices (keratoconus detection software)
- Comparative examinations with difference map
- Refractive display mode
- Height data
- Camera image

Applications for the ALLEGRO Topolyzer include:
- Repair station for decentered/irregular ablations after previous refractive surgery

ALLEGRO Analyzer

Speed · Precision · Better Vision

The successful treatment of vision disorders requires accurate diagnosis. As the first company worldwide in the industry to perform wavefront guided treatments on the human eye, WaveLight has accumulated a vast experience in the clinical application and integrated these experiences in their product line.
The ALLEGRO Analyzer is an ideal diagnostic device to support the decision-making process for customized laser vision correction. It greatly enhances the range of possible treatments, from the standard wavefront optimized procedure to the highly sophisticated wavefront guided treatment.

ALLEGRO A-CAT Treatment

The ALLEGRO Analyzer has been specifically designed to deliver wavefront data needed to perform safe and successful wavefront guided laser vision correction. All components such as the user interface, resolution and algorithms have been optimized to work in concert with the ALLEGRETTO WAVE laser systems.
All necessary treatment and patient parameters are transferred from the ALLEGRO Analyzer to the ALLEGRETTO WAVE laser systems. The ALLEGRO A-CAT software inside the laser notebook computer then calculates the appropriate correction pattern. The physician may, however, decide to change individual parameters at any stage of the process.
ALLEGRO A-CAT (or wavefront guided) treatments are intended for use on patients with high incidence of high-order aberrations in their optical system. Any required correction to the optical path of the eye is then enabled via A-CAT module on the cornea.

Tscherning Principle

Working in the visible spectrum, the ALLEGRO Analyzer is designed to make wavefront measurements by utilizing the Tscherning operating principle, which works as the same principle as the human eye. In order to perform a measurement according to this principle, an image of the measurement spots is projected onto the retina. This allows the physician to constantly verify that the image has been taken properly and that all measurement spots are actually valid. The application of this measurement principle allows for the detection of inaccurate readings caused by local obstructions.
The application of this principle allows the ALLEGRO Analyzer to exclusively deliver valid data and minimizes the risk of false treatment. The ALLEGRO Analyzer utilizes visible light to perform the measurements, therefore additional off-line calculations and factoring for chromatic errors are not required.
Automatic measurement release ensures that only centered measurements will be taken into account. Minor decentrations are detected and registered along with the pupil diameter and other relevant values. These data are then added to the actual wavefront data. Proprietary WaveLight data processing software allows for the registration and recording of valid measurements even with serious eye conditions.

Our Microkeratome Technology

We use Moria Microkeratome Evolution3 Platform in combination with M2 motors powered with CLB. We use multiple heads and motors in order to keep our strict operaring environment The reason for us to choose this combination for mikrokeratectomy (flap creation) is the unsurpassed precision of the system. For example this system has been found twice more precise than femtosecond laser microkeratome and does not cause Transient Light Sensitivity Syndrome. For microkeratomes precision means safety especially in cases of critical corneal thickness. Besides these pluses Slow Vacuum Release (SVR) of the system is a critical comfort component of the platform we especially like to use.
