After the LASIK operation
We don't patch your eyes. You can go to your hotel or home right after the laser operation. We encourage our patients to take a nap right after treatment. You will wear sunglasses home. Avoid reading and watching TV. If you rest for 1-2 hours at home after your LASIK operation, you will notice an immediate change in your vision. Most of our patients experience no pain or discomfort after the procedure. Some patients have a little watering of the eyes and a mild burning sensation. Others may have a mild to moderate foreign body sensation for a few hours following surgery, but the eye normally feels comfortable after about 3-4 hours. Most people feel fine if they take a nap soon after the treatment. The first night following LASIK treatment, you will be asked to wear a patch over your eyes at bedtime to prevent you from inadvertently rubbing your eyes while sleeping. You will be given post-operation medications and an instructions sheet. You will be asked to use your eye drops and artificial tears for several days, and to avoid rubbing your eyes. Women are instructed not to wear mascara for at least two days, ideally one week. LASIK patients should avoid water sports for two weeks and contact sports for one month following the LASIK operation to permit healing. You will be asked to return for a check-up the day after surgery and our doctor will check your vision, and monitor how your eyes are healing.
